Cornish Mines

When you think of Cornwall, certain images immediately come to mind - beaches, fishing, summer traffic jams(!) and of course Tin mining and to a lesser extent China Clay mining.

Although the latter is still carried out in the Duchy, Tin Mining ceased with the closure of South Crofty Mine in Camborne and although attempts at reopening are always being voiced - the mine is in danger of flooding,

On a happier note - the remains of Tin mines scatter the Cornish lanscape and you don't have to venture far to experience the build quality that has taken these simple buildings all over the world.

One of the most exciting projects to happen in Cornwall for a long time is the Eden Project - a series of giant greenhouses based at the base of an old Chind Clay pit near St.Austell. Opened to the public for the first time in 2000, October saw them taking delivery of their first trees.

Please be patient as page loads - images may take a while especially if your connection is slow!
